It is hot enough already, and my laptop runs fairly hot. This makes me hotter and inturn even more angry at the weather.

Anyone that uses them offer brands suggestions? TIA

I have this one - BYTECC Notebook Cooling Pad. Works well enough, not quite big enough for a big 17" widescreen.

Do you plan to use this on your lap or just on a desk?

I use one because I think a fan on my video card or something croaked on my and anytime I run a graphics-intensive game, my laptop overheats and shuts off. Can't remember what brand I use, just whatever I picked up at Best Buy, but it works well enough and keeps it from overheating.

On my lap, when it is on my desk I never notice the extra heat.

The cooling pads won't work so good on your lap. Well the one I have from antec anyways. Whenever I play a lot of bf2 I use it to keep it from crashing (tried and true solution).

Only time I use one is when I'm gaming on my laptop or doing something else CPU intensive. I have some generic one I got from some random online vendor years ago. They do help keep temps from getting too crazy. Besides for the pricetag on the laptop an extra $25-$30 for a cooler is a small price for some protection.
