My drive seems a little sluggish. I ran Sandra 20001 cdrom bench and it yields:

2202 drive index
Drive technology 23x

My Pioneer 16xDVD/40x CD yields:

2182 drive index
Drive technology 21x

What to do?

make sure DMA is enabled. I got the kenwood 72x and i must say its nice. I never benchmarked it but when I do audio ripping I can rip @ about 25-30x (depending on which song it is)

I highly recommend returning it while you still can. There are much better drives out there for half the price.

Much better DAE, and disk compatibility. I RMA'd mine 2 weeks ago... cost me $5 on top of $120 already wasted on this drive that took over 4 hours to install WindowsME, and wouldn't read the Road Runner installation disk. I still haven't got a return, so you can add bad Customer Service and Tech Support to the list. (Tech support assumed it was my problem and they sounded like a stoner on the phone). After the 52x Kenwood should have learned a lesson, but while they haven't I have.

I'm not that impressed with mine. It seems very slow auto-running any CD I put in it and its horrible on CDR's. I end up using my Pioneer slotload DVD drive more and more as a CD-Rom.

Did you guys ever try the new firmware before saying it sucks?

Mine came w/ 226G, but I tried the older 222 and then tested it, no change. I then flashed back, no change. I was running CD Speed 99 and after 5 runs the scores sucked in the 7x range, then I got a nice 46x avg...I just yanked the drive out.
