Anyone with a creative way to mount a CPU onto a P4? :|

I recently bought a Vantec Aeroflow for my p4. Unfortunately, I foolishly bought the socket A version and I can't return it. Seeing as I have no way of mounting the damn thing now, I was wondering... could I use Artic Silver adhesive to stick the HSF onto the CPU, or is that a bad idea? A possible disaster would be not the HSF coming off, but the HSF pulling the CPU out of the socket with its weight.

The alternative is... my motherboard does not have the standard P4 retention clips screwed on. It has this strange lug design that LOOKS like a socket A mount system but with only one WIDE lug rather than three smaller lugs. If I cut the partitioning bits of metal in the clip of the HSF i.e. going from : |__|__|__| to |______| would it work on this socket A mount? It looks like it could though I just wonder if the clearances for a Socket A CPU and a P4 CPU might be different thus making this plan a no-go.

Any help is appreciated!
