Anyone with a 7800 must try the 79.11 drivers, they are what 7800 drivers should be

I don't know where these came from or where they were, but:

Image quality is by far the best I've ever seen. Every game has new details that must have been omitted by the older drivers.

What's better, performance is better than any driver I've yet used.

In Battlefield 2 I benched w/ FRAPS 77.0 frames per second with these settings (amazing!) That's roughly a 7fps increase from the 80.xx drivers.

1680x1050
High Quality in Nvidia control panel
Transparency Supersamping
Gamma Corr. AA
4x AA
Forced Trilinear Mipmaps
Every setting on high, including dynamic lighting and shadows

Clocks were as in sig...

This is very impressive to me, anyone with a 7800 needs to try these IMO

Me actually. And 81.87, 81.82 etc.

Better image quality

Less CPU usage but better performance.

No idea why, but these are finally some decent drivers.

It would be great if everyone could do a driver comparison using the LC demos on this thread and post the results. I posted mine.

It could be, honestly I dont notice it in either driver, but it was severe in the 77 series

These drivers are good, very good, from what little I've seen of them so far.

mafia and Doom3 performance is through the roof with these drivers (will test Quake4 soon, when I install it). I have a feeling Ati's faster OpenGL performance for Quake4/Doom3 just evaporated however...

Image quality is excellent too.

Reccomended so far.

I went from 81.85 to 79.11 and did not notice any performance degradation in FEAR. It was faster in avg but lower in max fps, both within margin of error.

These drivers play Quake4 with the greatest of ease (10x the game Doom3 was btw).

Max fps never concern me much when benchmarking and evaluating drivers. Its minimum and average fps the determine how good the drivers are for gameplay.
