Anyone with 56k & a SMC Barricade?

After I hook the modem(external) to the router, the computer does not see it. I get the "modem not responding properly' message when I try to connect. I tried removing and reinstalling after reboot, but PNP does not pick it up. Manual install does not work either. Any suggestions?

The computer shouldn't see the modem. You set the modem up throught the router not on the PC.

It is all in black and white in the manual.
