anyone "win" a copy of office2003 from MS?

So i get this mysterious package in the mail the other day and i opened it up to find a shrink wrapped/boxed copy of office 2003 pro and a piece of paper that said "congratulations on winning the microsoft insider sweepstakes. Here is your prize."

Very cool, but i dont ever recall entering said sweepstakes. I am an MSDN subscriber, so maybe i was automatically entered or something. Anyone else get this? I wonder if it's a "thank you for blowing several thousand dollars on the MSDN universal subscription" gift. Probably not, but i dunno.

The good thing is that this thing is still worth $250+ on ebay and even more if i can convince a store to give me store credit for it. It's a perfectly legit copy from what i can tell. That'd be funny if MS sent me a warez copy.

Actually, i should be scared of mysterious packages from MS. This package might turn out to be their newest form of copyright infringement deterrence. Open the shrink wrap and BOOM!

Someone help me think of something to buy at best buy if they'll take it back. Or office depot, for that matter. I don't want a ~$400 chair...

I'm pretty sure that you are automatically entered into some sort of drawing, if you get the MSDN Insider newsletter.

99% of places won't take back software without a receipt. You'd be hard pressed for them to give you store credit on an unopened $350 copy of some Microsoft software.

how can you tell if its an NFR version? I looked over the box trying to find a "not for resale" type message but it looks like it was pulled straight off a shelf.

I'll try to return it but if i can't hopefully i can get a couple hundred off ebay. Boxed and sealed versions usually go for more than the standard "in a jewel case" *cough*warez*cough* ones.

i just went in to office depot and the manager said they can give me $500 in store credit. Too bad everything else there is equally as expensive. They did have a few 19" LCD monitors for around $500 though. I need a new sprint phone, too. And they have 200gig maxtors for $99 so if i wanted to, i could blow the $500 on a TB of storage...*drool*

Decisions, decisions.

I have never seen MS give away any retail license, only the NFR license.
MS gives away retail licensed software quite often. Usually they're from promotions for resellers. A few months ago, we got a copy of SBS2003 retail for some surveys.

Buy something worth $500 and hawk it on eBay and take the $500 in cash to Best Buy or Frys and buy yourself something nice. Or take a trip to Vegas

eh, that's a lot of hassle and who's going to buy something on ebay for the same price they can get it at office depot? I might just see if best buy or frys will take it back.
