anyone who owns an x1600pro 512mb agp have any feedback?

Hello. My x800pro died on me, and since I was strapped for cash, I got a x1600pro 512mb agp from newegg for $139. Does anyone have real hand knowledge on how this card performs? I've read the reviews, and I've heard it is more on par with a 6600gt, but any feedback on what games you play and how good/bad it is would be great. Thanks for your time.

I dont have one, but as you said its about equal to a 6600GT. You won't get as good performance as your X800 PRO, but you will have SM3.0. I would presume the X1600 overclocks fairly well too, can probably get close to X1600XT core speed of 590 MHz, though the XT probably has better memory so 1400 MHz is a no-go.

All you achieved was a downgrade. The x1600pro is not a good card for gaming, sm3 or not.

If your old x800pro was an agp card, you really should've upgraded to pcie.

well "since i was strapped for cash", i knew all i could do was downgrade. unless i got a monster deal for $150 for a new pci-e cpu/mobo/vidcard.

not to step on your toes, but i'm just asking x1600pro agp owners about their experience with their cards and what games the card does/doesn't like.

Well, the 4 pipe X1600Pro (512 megs of slow ram is just marketing on that card, it won't do any better than if it had 128) is definitely several steps down speedwise from your 12 pipe X800Pro. It's got 1/3 the texture and fill rate of your previous card, and less then half the memory bandwidth, and about 20% less vertex processing oomph. However, it'll do well enough in newer games if you lower your expectations.

Don't even THINK of turning on FSAA, and turn down both the resolution and texture quality to get the best possible performance out of it.

That being said, it's an excellent budget card. $139 doesn't buy much for an AGP rig except this card or the 6600GT or 6800XT/NU. Out of those 4, the 1600Pro is as good as it gets.

Disclaimer: I would never buy this card, but I've seen it in action. It can run Oblivion at 1024x768 med settings at an acceptable frame rate. It's a hair better than a 6600GT in shader heavy games, at the cost of ATI drivers.

I would think with the purchase of a ATI card *sarcasm* aside it is because ATI is da ev0l and makes you wait 10 seconds to bring up the ccc.

I have that card, x1600 pro, AGP 256mb. Upgraded from 9600pro before going all out ina new rig in a few years (vista,conroe, pci-e, etc).

I had not great expactation for 130 bucks, but this is a neat little card. Really blows my 9600pro out of the water (to be expected).

I did not try many games but battlefiled 2 is flawless at 1024x768 with all details in the max and some AA (2x or 4x). I also tried the lost coast demo and I was impressed with the card's speed ... everything was smoot as silk.

Im a not a huge gamer and was more attracted to the card with the price, and the AVIVO feature set. My pc is media center and the card is real good for that. You will be happy and suprise as long as you think you paid cheap for it

thx guys for the feedback. i just can't wait to be able to use my computer again..i have no backup video card, thus nothing to connect my crt to. i've accepted that it won't be as sweet as my old card, but i'm just hoping being cheap and saving 60 bux won't disappoint me too much. i'm tired of using my sis's comp..but i appreciate all the feedback.
