Well, the 4 pipe X1600Pro (512 megs of slow ram is just marketing on that card, it won't do any better than if it had 128) is definitely several steps down speedwise from your 12 pipe X800Pro. It's got 1/3 the texture and fill rate of your previous card, and less then half the memory bandwidth, and about 20% less vertex processing oomph. See
http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=369&card2=38 for a detailed spec comparison.
However, it'll do well enough in newer games if you lower your expectations.
Don't even THINK of turning on FSAA, and turn down both the resolution and texture quality to get the best possible performance out of it.
That being said, it's an excellent budget card. $139 doesn't buy much for an AGP rig except this card or the 6600GT or 6800XT/NU. Out of those 4, the 1600Pro is as good as it gets.
Disclaimer: I would never buy this card, but I've seen it in action. It can run Oblivion at 1024x768 med settings at an acceptable frame rate. It's a hair better than a 6600GT in shader heavy games, at the
cost of ATI drivers.
