Does anyone know how a square diamond (Asscher) would fit in a 5-prong setting like this?

The jeweler will make it work, if you want them to, but its not made for a square cut.

The prongs are usually separate from the rest of the ring IIRC... a bench jeweler could probably put new prongs on.

The prongs are usually interchangable and they put in ones appropriate for the stone that will be used.

have you bought the setting yet? if not, check out the brand Vatche, supposingly the guy designed the x prong princess ring for Tiffany, and his x prong settings look exactly like Tiffany for a lot less money. I think the website is www.dvatche.com
