Anyone who is good at electronics and RC here? just want to ask simple question.

Hi, i just want to ask some simple questions about electronics.

Heres the case: I bought a really cheap RC toy car (really cheap and not for hobbyist) after 3 days the electric motor broke down and I tried to check it, I disassembled the toy and took the motor. I saw two resistors connected to the motor (for both positive and negative terminal of it) and then a capacitor connecting both negative and positive. I have to remove the resistors and capacitor to check and fix the simple electric motor. I was able to fix the motor as the problem was due to the brushes misaligned. When I assembled everything again I didnt connect the resistor and capacitor anymore.

My simple question is does the resistors and capacitor affect electric motor speed and the battery life (does it conserve battery life)? And what does the resistor and capacitor for in this setup?

Heres the illustration (actual resistor and capacitor displayed):

the cap may just be a filter, but the resistor are probabaly needed to limit current and keep the motor from burning up

why not just put it all back the way it was?

The cap may have been a filter, or for charge storage, the resistors were probably there to limit current. Probably no effect from pulling them other than shortneed battery / component life, or maybe a slightly higher risk of burning the motor up.

Most likely, no real effect.

Thanks for the replies, I get it now, but correct me if im wrong both the resistor and capacitor has nothing to do with battery life and speed of motor and that it is used only to protect the motor?

I am not sure but I think i will be putting it all back when I replace the motor with a faster one (as the current motor is a very ordinary one). and one more thing can really ordinary electric motor typically used for toys burn up (from what cause? over heat or sudden rise in DC voltage?)

BTW the toy car uses 4 1.5V AA battery and the transmitter is 9volts.

Someone also mentioned to me an "rc snubber" i dont know if this is what it means. the link is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snubber
