Anyone who has taken Calc 3 AND Diffy Q's

CraKaJaX

In the process of scheduling for next fall. Some people have told me Calc 3 is a much easier class when you take Diffy Q's before it. I have also heard vice versa. So my question is, which one is true? I believe I can trust the answers I get on ATOT..... 😛

Thanks guys. Guess I'll be taking Calc 3. Only problem with that is that they don't have a Prof's name up for the 3 lecture sections yet. 🙁

I found calc 3 MUCH easier than DiffEQ, and I also don't feel like anything I learned in calc 3 was of much use in DiffEQ. The material from calc 1 and 2 proved to be much more important when learning DiffEQ.

Also, you should take linear algebra before you take diff eq. Most schools have you take it afterwards, but we wasted a lot of time in my diff eq class going over eigenvalues and other things that should be learned in linear algebra.

I did:
Calc 1 (high school)
Calc 2 (high school)
Calc 3 (college)
Diff Eq
Linear Algbra

I wish I did:
Calc 1
Calc 2
Linear Algebra
Diff eq
Calc 3

I could still do that. I'm just making a "Wish List" planning out my schedule for what I think would work for me. I meet with my advisor tomorrow to see what he thinks. But as for the math class... I guess it just depends on how you learn. (As shown in the above posts 😛)

That's a good thing... I 2.1'ed Calc 3 since my professor was very incomprehensible. Along with the fact I was taking the class with engineers and they made their own curve higher than the students who never took the class before, it was pretty nuts.

Although I did 2.2 Linear Algebra also (thought I aced the final, learned I bombed it instead)... Just another class to retake over summer if it's available... although it was much easier than Calc 3.

I did Diff EQ's twice with two completely (almost) course descriptions at two different schools. At one, they focused on methods of solving Diff EQ's. Harder. At the other, they focused on solving and understanding Diff EQ's - incredibly easy. Then again, I was a math major, my friend Karin was a math major, and we both had 100 averages. The rest of the students in the class were engineering students. None had higher than an 80 on any test during the semester. It's been way too many years since Calc III. Seems that it was easy though.

i wish my school had gone more into how to solve DE's - though i guess i'll get to *real* (numerical) solutions once i get to numerical methods class.

i love DE's though.. they are so cool.

i took calc 3 first...

i don't remember too much about these classes anymore, but for some reason i thought calc 2 was the hardest of the math courses i took...
