I drove mine for what seemed like forever, and the "E" never lit up.
It's got a 17.12 gallon tank, and when I filled it up, I put in like 15.xx gallons in.
Does it just take a while before that light will come on? I am trying to calculate how many miles per gallon I can get before the light comes on.
 
in my experience it lights up at 2 gallons left (if you have a big tank), or 1 gallon left (if you have a smallish tank).

It's a 17.12 gallon tank. It was on E for a while, I got scared, and threw in about 15.4 gallons when I filled it up. That left me with around 1.7 gallons.
But the E never came on. I was going to wait for the E, fill up, and then run it back down to the E. Oh well I guess I will try again this time.
 
I hate letting my gas get low. I say buy a gas can and keep and extra gallon just in case while you are experimenting.
