Just remember that you are also watching a television program. They are always inclined to use emotive language to create a pursuasive argument. Of course, this is OK in making their point, but just realise that it is easy to bend the truth to suit. Even my favourite documentaries I take with a bit of scepticism. Only thorough scientific evidence is conclusive.
On a topic such as global warming, it is very hard to say what the actual side-effects of pollution etc are. For starters, many parts of the globe may actually cool due to the supposed green-house effect, and others will warm. Are these changes in temperature a natural cycle of the Earth's weather? What effect will just a degree Centigrade or more actually have on weather, agriculture, the seas, the land, etc? Is the effect us humans are imposing upon the planet significant enough to cause major problems? All these questions are very complex to analyse and I would find it hard to believe that anyone has the answer based upon fact.
For sure, there a lot of environmentalists making wild claims with little or no scientific and factual basis. But not all global warming stuff is incorrect. There are a lot of scientists and researchers gathering information and analysing it, trying to understand what is going on with pollution and try and make a prediction based on the facts currently available.
Like with many things, it is extremaly difficult to predict what the outcome of our actions will be. It does seem likely that we have increased the chance of unforseen problems, but then again, it might have the opposite effect. If you know about the chaos theory, you will understand the seemingly random nature of events, and how little changes can cause major outcomes just as big as large changes, but usually at a decreased probability. What I am trying to highlight here is the immense unpredictability of actions and reactions such as the green-house effect.
Then again, we are due for another ice-age and flipping of the axis soon so I'm holding onto my hat!
