Don't diss Roddick. You've gotta love the 141mph serves....

i can name you a ton of tennis players that could serve 141 and not win. Goran Ivanisevic to start off with. he was OK, but he will never compare to a becker, sampras or agassi.

i'm still watching it so it must hold SOME interest for me, but i just don't sense the juice i used to when sampras - agassi were playing or when conners - mcenroe would play.

btw, i can't believe that ferraro is the #1 player.

There's another kind of tennis?

There's tennis that sucks because it's on hard/fast courts and it's all bang/bang, serve and volley, no rallies. Then there's tennis that sucks because it's on clay and it's all big looping top-spin ground strokes with no skill or precision, just waiting for the other guy to hit one off the frame and lose the point.

All tennis sucks, but it's not the players. The days of Connors, Mac, Lendl, etc were better because they actually had to create angles and craft points. Now it's just hit every shot as hard as possible, fewest unforced errors wins. Technology ruined the game, make these guys play with 1960's era wood rackets, lets see if any of them possess any real skills.

My old favorite was agassi, he should be retiring within the next two years tho.
New favs are Ferrero:( and Tommy Haas-hurt

Roddick is awesome but this is his FIRST open title....lets see if he can do it somewhere else

Yes.

Roddick has been awesome since Brad Gilbert became his coach. Glad to see there will still be an American male in contention. Taylor Dent and James Blake fade in and out. Roddick's game is about a lot more than his serve.

Men's tennis is awesome right now, it seems that the draws are wideopen...even if you're a no namer...you're probably good enough to knock a top tier player if he's not on top of his game. Moreover, the matches are going to be close...it's a rarity to see anything near a 0-0 victory in men's tennis. Women's is getting much more competitive at the top.

Roddick played much better today than he did against nabaldion(sp) although it was obvious ferrero wasn't on top of his game...doesn't matter, you gotta bring it for a finals of a grand slam...Andy was on today! Granted it wasn't a thrilling match, there were many quality pts.

It wasn't a great final, but it was extremely annoying to hear over and over that Ferrero was tired. These kids are young, extremely fit athletes in top physical condition near the prime of their games. Ferrero had a bad day, but quit giving him a pass by using the "he had no legs left" excuse.

Simply put, the guy wilted under the pressure of Roddick's serve and he was never mentally in the match.

Agassi wasn't serving well and was double faulting quite a few times, plus he didn't really do his best to run down the balls. I'm referring to yesterday's game against Ferrero (sp?).

I hate home court advantage in any sport.

AROD had the US crowd pushing him on the last 2 days.

AROD should have lost to Nabladian yesterday if it were not for that 3rd set tie-break loss due to that st*pid American fan yelling "out" on that crucial point. The Argentian most likely would have won yesterday. Then in sets 4 and 5, the USA crowd got raucous. Nabladian folded under the pressure from the crowd.

Tennis is MENTAL. You have to be extremely focused. The crowd can have a HUGE effect. You lose a set and the rest of the game and momentum can be an epidemic.

For this same reason, I hate watching games from Roland Garos in Paris. The French are even worse when it comes to their immature heckles.

The French crowd really screwed Serena in that one match earlier this year. She was beat by them, not her opponent.

Roddick has one vicious looking serve. He also looked quite good at the baseline and very confident.
