This special seems to be saying how evil the drug companies are and how bastardly the drug companies are for selling drugs for profit that came from tax payer funded research done by the NIH. Well, okay fine.
How about all of the technologies that came out of defense budgets and public universities? TCP/IP, the internet, and uncountable other gadgets, gizmos, and technical philosphies were funded with taxpayers money, and are now in the hands of the private industries that are making a profit on it.
They then went on to talk about how minimal improvements in drugs are still being sold for profits. Well, what about the progression of CPU's. Just how much extra performance do we get from each product cycle of CPU's, or hard drives, or video cards, or whatever else we can think of?
How much has tide improved it's laundry detergent in the last 10 years? They're still turning a profit on it, even though it hasn't changed much at all.
Yes, I realize that this is a very generalized approach, and that I have oversimplified things, but I'm just trying to put things in perspective. Yes, I do agree that there is some corruption, and that some drugs are horridly overpriced, but lets not forget that we are a capitalistic society and we reap what we sow.
