My dad digs this show, so I got him all 8 seasons for a gift. Should I watch them before I send them, lol? I'm just not sure it's really going to be that good. I know it has a huge cult following and all.

Thoughts?

Try watching some of it. I enjoy it, but understand why someone wouldn't. It's stupid, low-budget British comedy.

Example of the stupidity: in one episode, the robot-type guy gets put into jail with women because he's not an anatomically correct robot dude. He's always thought of himself as male, so he's upset and builds himself a little stiffy so he'll be seen as male by the authorities. Then his new penis runs off and he spends much of the episode trying to chase it down.

My dad? Or the robot guy??

No, the DVDs have been opened, they're "used".

Early seasons are good, seasons 7 and 8 aren't really funny. The Cat character sucks, show would be a lot better without him. They also made a Red Dwarf pilot for the U.S., but the series never made it past the pilot stage.

Ive seen a few episodes, I thought it was pretty funny and if I saw the DVDs for a good price I'd probably buy a few.

The cat character is why I stopped watching. I saw the first two episodes and was greatly displeased by the stupid cat character, so I gave up on the show.
