Anyone wash/dunk their Galaxy S5 in water yet?

I got mine 2 days ago and am itching to take underwater pics. 5 people I work with have it but none of us have tried it yet. Any of ya do this yet?

Not: "Let's go diving and take some pictures."

I did it with my s4 active. Actually the reason I got the active in the first place was in case I do something around the pool.

It thought the headphones were connected until I dried out that port.

I have a Galaxy Rugby LTE/Pro and an S4 Active -- forbearers of the S5's back cover seal. Both can take more outdoor abuse than many other phones, but neither should ever be considered for use underwater. Your S5 is likely more fragile than them.

It's maximum rating when fully sealed is only for in-situ at a maximum of 1m.

Any extra pressure exerted on the seals when moving the phone through water can kill it. Any bit of dust or lint interfering with the seals can kill it once enough water enters such points of failure..

This phone is not waterproof nor intended to be. It is water resistant to reasonable limits of its specification. When sealed it should be alright for light rinsing, rain, splashing, or a short and non-jarring dunk in very shallow water. Do not ever consider it for any submersible use. Your ~$700 to soak away how you may choose....

It's water resistant, same as a watch that you can wear while washing your hands.

Not water proof, like a diving watch.

My mother has an S4 Active, and she actually washed it one time under running water after spilling soup or gravy on it at work. It was fine. OFC now the USB port cover is broken, so it's no longer even water resistant.

The s4 active has a photo mode called "aqua" specifically for taking underwater pictures. It's not waterproof for long, but they thought you could submerge it for a quick picture

Samsung screwed up with the S4 Active marketing.

There are many online stories of people thinking that they could use the phone underwater..... They killed their phone leaving AT&T to replace many of them with the caveat not to submerge the phone again.

Honestly IP67 rating is just worthless. It's under 1m of perfectly undisturbed water. Be splashing, pushing, pulling your phone through the water even at 1 ft depth, I would expect it to get messed up. IP68 is where it starts getting interesting and certainly more usable in the pool. For example that's what those Lifeproof iPhone cases are rated, and even then I managed to mess one up

Check the asterisks on "waterproof" in the manual.

I did some research on some "waterproof" cameras a while back. Turns out they require regular maintenance and inspection to keep the seals working. If they leak, the company may check if you followed all of their steps before replacing. What I got out of it was that "waterproof" devices "should be" or "can be" waterproof.
