Wed afternoon I came home from school and felt kinda tired, so I decided to take a nap. Two hours later I woke up and felt horrible. Checked my temp and had a fever of 102. Decided to stay home that night and rest. Didn't go to school on Thursday, and barely had the energy to move, also lots of aching muscles and bones all over my body, but mostly in my lower back. I also had the worst headaches ever, mostly centered towards my eyes (if I move my eyes from side to side or up and down they hurt). Stayed home Friday also, but my fever had dropped to 99.7 and I was able to get up and move around much easier. This morning I was feeling better. Again, I stayed home all day watching football. Then later in the evening I started to feel uncomfortable, like no matter what position I sat in, my body hurt still. So I took my temp a few min ago and it was back up to 101.3...
I can get up and walk around, but I am very sensitive to changes in temperature and my entire body hurts. I thought I had killed it because I felt better last night and this morning, but it appears to be coming back.
This sound familiar to anyone?
There can be many things here:
But you must to the ER now.
They will check your Antibodies specificity. What area do you live in? Did you get bitten by a tic? It sounds like Lime Disease. Also can be West Nile. Bacterial Meningitis can also be it. Looks like and LP is needed. If your eyes are sensitive to light, it's definitely it. These are deadly dude. Go to the ER now. You need antibiotics NOW. How old are you? Your temp is too high not to call it an infection.
GO NOW PLEASE, TO THE ER.
Darn Chicken Little..guess you've never learned the old adage MDs get in school in their first year..........."What do you think of when you hear hoofbeats? Zebras? No, horses."
You're looking for zebras and overlooking the horse. It sounds much like the flu........I notice he didn't mention a crushingly severe headache or severly stiff neck (especially the inability to put his chin to his chest without lifting his legs while lying down) or profuse vomiting, all semi-sure signs of meningitis. I notice he didn't mention the circular bullseye rash that is present in over 90% of Lyme-disease tick bites.
Take some Tylenol for the temp, drink fluids. Body aches, temps, LBP (low back pain), etc. are most likely the flu. there are severe outbreaks nationwide, including in your area of Michigan.
If, on the other hand, it's still this bad by Monday, go to your campus's clinic and see the MD there. No reason to fly down to the ER thinking you're dying. Lyme is slow to fester---incubation of up to 4 weeks and not a sudden, rapid onset like described. Viral meningitis will typically resolve itself within a couple of weeks anyway, rare to be hospitalized----home treatment is usually done. Bacterial, on the other hand, requires hospitalization and IV antibiotics.
Why the
laissez faire attitude from me? After working in ERs, ICUs and MD offices for over 25 years (as an LPN and RN), I've seen the Chicken Littles come zooming in to the ER for complaints that a little common sense would have treated. Admittedly, the 102 temp is a tad high, but the fact it's resolved itself to 100 or less without Tylenol or other intervention, and lack of severe symptomology (and I assure you a stiff neck from meningitis is something a patient WILL NOT MISS!!) gives one to gravitate towards the more common problem, such as influenza, and not the esoteric like Lyme and meningitis.
