I agree these threads pop up regularly and I always look, haven't really been able to find a site with good stock tips...

I am new to all of this and I was wondering how much on average you start investing with?

I'm looking for another winner and have just currently invested in BKHM on what I believe to be a temporary downswing on it's way to 10.

You should have known Howard Stern was going to try to sell his stock thus driving the price down.

Are you looking to become a "trader" or an investor?

Best: SBC/At&T- up 12% plus a dividend payment

Recently sold some energy mutual funds for some massive gains (50-70%)

Did you have SBC or AT&T before the merger?

I know...the only good news is that after Stern sells off all his stock, it should start to creep back up. I think long term I'll be ok and worst case, take a slight loss, but the problem is that now that money is tied up and I really can't sell at this big of loss when I believe it will come back up. Win some and lose some huh? ;)

Without a timeframe best/worst is meaningless. Best in the last few years for me is MO, bought it in the very low 20s when it was yielding like 10% and everyone on earth thought they were going bankrupt. KNOT is my best from the last year or so, bought at 5ish. Worst in the last few years is TWP, took a bath on that after its earnings tanked one quarter. ACMR also left a mark, again after an earnings disappointment.

Mentally sell that stock and put the cash in the bank. Would you buy that stock today? If not, sell it and move on.

My boss has owned RFMD since $55 (it's $7 now, and it's not coming back). In reality, RFMD has owned him. Swallow your pride and move on.

I dumped SIRI @$6.08 and haven't missed it (lost my a$$). I am currently in CECE (+9%) and HITT (+2%), but both are new positions. I will not take a loss of greater than 10% ever again.

Why do you think you'll never tage a greater than 10% loss again, especially owning these stocks?
I mean you got CECE, a microcap with no earnings, and selling at 10x book value, and >2 debt/equity. Not exactly the kind of stock you buy for principle preservation. HITT is better, but not exactly cheap either.

I'll sell before I do take that great of a loss. Yes, CECE doesn't seem like one of the better choices at present, but they had a stellar year last year (just need that damn annual report...). Insiders bought up tons of stock over the last 12 months and they recently refinanced their debt in an effort to improve their finances. Quarterly and annual growth is up nicely to boot.

If it doesn't take off when they release their earnings I will simply move on to another stock. If it does take off I'm holding for big gains. :)

I remember a thread about someone here who lost a grip of $ on this stock. I'm sorry.

2nd best:

Brazil ETF (EWZ) - up around 66%. This one is volitile, but keeps going up.

Worst:

New Dragon Asia (NWD) - down 12%, but I only bought it as a gamble (it's a noodle making company). If I had bought it AFTER it made it's big drop, i'd be up 100% on this one.

ELN is a great choice, as a MS patient myself, I am waiting for Tysabri to come back on the market and will switch back to it the minute it comes back. I also have them....

My others aren't so much stock their my 401k... and my best fund has been.. ODMAX which got me 65% 33% 44% the last 3 years. My 2nd best is ACRNX which the last 3 years was... 46% 22% and 14%.
