As an interesting side note, if you're a monk with high enough skill points, you can wear Keldorn's armor. It's great until I think level 13 or so, when your natural AC class is equal to the armor's. At least it provides free movement, in any case.

I don't think thats right. Keldorn's armor is marked 'Useable by: Keldorn', ruling out anybody else from wearing it, stats or otherwise. Also, its heavy armor, monks can't wear any heavy or medium armor. I believe they can wear light armor, but I may be confusng the 2e BG2 edition with the 3e rules.

On the suggestion of doing it MP and creating a party yourself, that might be nice for powergaming but interaction between you, your companions and your companions amongst themselves is a major part of the game. So I cant reccomend this.

I wont give advice about whom to pick and whom not to pick either, since you should be able to finish the game with any decent party, just make sure it is balanced. Meaning, have some magic users, have some healers and have at least a thief.

Edwin rocks as a mage
Jaheira is good only because of the romance quest (get it patched from TeamBG first!) and because of her elemental summons; particuarly in ToB
Minsc- good fighter
Viconia- Good cleric, though you need to give her a belt of giant strength, gauntlets of ogre strength, or crow feyre to make up for her lack of strength
Korgan - incredibly badass fighter, particuarly with mastery in axes. A MUST.

While I prefer being a fighter, getting your hands on the +5 Holy sword almost makes it worth it; 50% magic resistance on top of any existing magic resistance. Otherwise, replace Minsc with Keldorn and use an item to boost one of his weaker stats (he sucks in some stat, I just don't know which one off hand).

Make sure you install the bonus pack; Vhailors Helm allows anyone of any class who wears it to do simulcrum once a day. For example, if you're an incredibly badass Paladin with the holy sword, you can duplicate yourself. The duplicate is weaker than you, but it would otherwise have the same abilities AND the sword/other items while it's around. Also has the same items in it's quick slots. So you can have it, say, summon a genie with the lamp, while still saving your charges for your "real" character. It's very useful to have two characters with greater than 50% magic resistance in some fights. Also, Kangaxx can only be hurt by +4 weapons or greater. So get that crappy crystal staff for sale, give it to Korgan, duplicate him, then have both go berserk to make them immune to the maze spell, then stand back and haste him. A great way to get one of the best items in the game incredibly easily.

not to ressurrect a dead and meaningless thread, but honestly, there's alot better ways to do some things.

like, for example, carsomyr can be wielded without you ever having been a paladin. i suggest dualclassing a kensai into a thief. not only do you get an insane armor class (kensai base at whatever level you dualed him at, + -2 AC white dragon scale armor, which still allows you to hide in shadows.), but you get an x5 backstab, depending on your choice of weapon. carsomyr cant be used to backstab. so you get the staff of the ram as well, and get them both +6, and fully max out masteries in both 2 handed sword and staff. looking at 200+ point backstabs with staff of the ram.

Jaheria is a crappy, crappy healer. i have her now in my paladin's party, and she is aweful. if it werent for the romance, i'd have ditched her.

few pointers for the op, if he reads this. every party needs 4 things.

a pdef/HP monster tank
a thief
a cleric
a mage.

now, you can get around some of these requirements by dualclassing or multiclassing, or picking up specific NPC's tailored to that end.

also, pick what size party you want. just cause you have 6 slots, doesnt mean you need to use them.

my current party (for fun, not exactly power play)
my paladin (cavalier kit)
Jaheria(bad healer...)
Nalia(good alignment arcane mage)
Yoshimo(need a thief, and good ones are hard to come by)

my last powerplay group: (evil roleplay :D)
kensai thief (dualed at lvl 12 to thief, with staff of the ram and carsomyr)
Viconia(best cleric in game)
Edwin(best mage in game)
Korgan (he's korgan. that's all that matters)

for what it's worth, my next group
me, as a kensai thief.
aerie, for a cleric and mage.

it's gonna be hell tanking ****** till use any item on the thief, but i think it'll be worth it. may have to take minsc or korgan till i get my kensai skills back, though.

i found an easy way to kill kangaxx - mace of disruption.

*SPOILER*

i used the illithium ore to make the mace of disruption +2. kangaxx failed his save vs. death, and was gibbed instantly by viconia:laugh:

*</SPOILER>

edit: faid, try playing a monk.. they're a little difficult in the beginning, but they are GODLY in the end - 90% magic resistance, 4 attacks/round, -13AC.

only a few things could kill my monk (playing on insane w/ 2x damage helps:p)- dragons, fire giants, and bosses. otherwise, i was magic immune and couldnt be hit by much:D
