I'll be in Chicago from Dec 17th through the 21st for training... Anyone wanna hang out? It's been a couple of years since I've been to the windy city, and I've never been in December. Should I wear a light jacket or is a tshirt and shorts ok?

I'll be staying about 3-4 blocks from the Sears tower, are there any awesome bars around there that I should go to? What places are the most 'happening' on weeknights? Thanks-

The Loop basically shuts down outside of the Theatre District and State street corridor every day at 5:01. Mid December in Chicago? Bring at least a medium weight coat, but keep an eye on the weather before you come as its kinda fickle.

You are going to have to head north River North/Old Town/Lincoln Park for most of the decent bars. Edit: Greektown actually isn't too far away for good food and drinks (Halsted from Van Buren north to about Washington).

I remember the bars I hit before were actually north of the Hancock bldg by about 3-5 blocks....and about 3-5 blocks west....So I'll be pretty far from that if the weather is truly cold. :p I won't need the loop, I'm travelling on foot and by train. A train in downtown seems useless...especially when my hotel is 3-4 blocks from the training.

I should have clarified. The area within the circle that the L tracks make downtown is referred to as the Loop. Since its alomost all businesses in there the area shuts down after 5. It is seriously like a ghost town nights and weekends.

The L is actually pretty handy and you should look into using it, especially if the weather turns. I assume you ended up in the Rush/Division area before.

If you want to tell me some major streets you will be near I can give more specific advice.

Yeah....I was with a couple of associates from FL and AZ, we ended up grabbing some deep dish and beer, then hoofed it up Rush...we saw the bars on Division and ended up there finishing off our livers with some Old Style. This was summer of 2003, so I'm struggling trying to remember everything.

I'll be around W. Adams and Monroe for the most part.

If you walk west on Adams about six blocks past the river you will end up in Greektown (Halstead St.). Lots of good food there.

If you don't mind taking the L you can get on the Brown line to the north side (Lincoln Park/Old Town) or walk over to the Red Line and check out the Grand St. Area or go up to the Clark/Divison stop which puts you close to the Rush St. area.

You're insane if you're in shorts. A pair of jeans will do well.

In the midwest, you best learn to dress in layers.
