Here's the situation: I am heavily involved (President) in a large youth football program here in West Houston. My wife is responsible for uniform ordering for the 1600+ kids in our program. This year, we put out for bid our uniform order. Over the last week, we having been meeting and discussing the bid with a company called Takbo-USA. The sales rep is located here in the Houston area but apparently the company's main offices and manufacturing facility is in the Phillipines.

Now, we understand that almost all sports uniform manufacturing occurs outside of the US, but what has us worried is the cost to final product is much, much better than what other vendors have shown us so far and that Takbo does not have any physical office in the US. The rep did provide us references of other leagues/teams he has worked with and we've already received responses from two teams in the area - both were very happy.

However, what I've been trying to find and been unsuccessful is information about the actual company located in the Philippines. So, I'm wondering if anyone has any connections there that can do some fact-finding for us, or is more familiar with philippine websites or other resources. Our board is very impressed with the product, but we want all of our bases covered if we are going to sign a contract in the 6 digits. Thanks in advance for any info.

I would be very careful. I just checked out their site and there's very little information about them period. If it were a purchase solely for your family it might be worth the risk, but with 1600+ kids and their families to deal with, it just isn't worth the risk.

Which site did you go to? Takbo-USA is the proper website for the US operations.

But you make a valid point, though it's the same issue for whoever we go with. Our current company is local, but we have too many issues with them and they have some issues with us. Neither of us are willing to budge much. Plus, it's been years since we looked at our uniform style, both look and fabric, as well as our cost.

I did. They are registered with the Secretary of State in Texas since January 2008.
 
I was in high school in the Philippines. Our football team got custom made uniforms name and all for like $15. Good quality materials.. I still have my jerseys. You could go to a store with a pair of levi's, come back in a week, and have several exact replicas for $5 each.

Just be careful who you deal with... but as far as quality goes.. I am sure you won't be disappointed.
 
What exactly are you worried about? That the clothes are assembled in a sweat shop? That they're using leaded thread? 😛

Yea, that's the site I went through. I took the liberty of contacting him letting him know I was interested in buy some jerseys. He's been in business for roughly ten years doing work for other clients, but just recently setup shop so he can create his own brand. On the phone he seemed decent, didn't want to disclose too much about where he manufactured the gear, but stated that the front end of the business is in fact in texas and the other portion (manufact.) is done is Asia (presumably the Phillippines). He seems very guarded about this fact since he told me that his other clients would be very unhappy with him should they find out he is marketing his own brand while still doing their work as well. After

Hope this sheds a little bit more light. Maybe talking face to face with the references would be a good idea and having them show you the finished product.
 
I've done a LexisNexis & Business Source Complete search on the company & management company names & got nothing. This isn't too surprising, though, since it isn't a big company.

I would definitely wait to hear from leagues of around your size.

Thanks for the efforts preslove. I got a response back from one of the references that stated they will be using the company for their 1200 kid league, so I'm getting much more comfortable with him and the company.
 
I say go for it. High quality merchandise at good prices. What's not to like? Kinda sad that American companies could never compete with this, but that's their problem not yours. 😀

Well crap, that kinds of puts a monkey wrench into things. Nothing worse than the other finding out and then suing him enough that he has to close shop.
 
Just had a bad experience with Takbo-Usa and strongly advise not to do business with this company, they do not stand behind their product. Joel P Naperville, IL
 
I used Takbo for my football teams in 2010. Was promised everything first week of August. didn't get it until mid September. First 4 games in practice wear. Names to come later, and never got them. 2011 I looked at using a sister co, Team Rebel Direct. I ended up making a deal with Takbo, that I would pay half, and then the other half once I had pics that my order was ready to ship. He promised he had his own factory now, and would deliver. He did I got my order on time (also order in March). After first game most of the Red and White uniforms turned pink. Pink & Football (not good). Then after the third game 30% of the tackle twill started shredding, by the end of the season it was the majority completely ripped up. You try to call, they say Jerry is overseas at the plant, call during hours. That is midnight to me. When ordering he is very responsive, when problems you can't find him. The first year uniform quality was good it was just several weeks late. 2011 quality was terrible. Never got the names I paid for either year.

Do not put yourself through this? Parents destroyed me over this.

That's bull, as long as he is not disclosing the brands, there is no reason his customers can have a beef with him.

Not disclosing the origin is the bigger issue for me.
