Anyone vacation in New Zealand?

My mom called and said the whole family is going in December. Is it nice there? Any tips appreciated.

Yea, I went a few years ago. I really had a great time there, even thought I went during what was their fall/early winter. Beautiful country, nice people. When I was there I stayed in Auckland for a week visiting a friend, and then took off on this bus trip for a week on this thing called the Kiwi Experience (the bus damn near drove off the side of a mountain, but that's another story). It was a great trip, the bus took off from Auckland and went to Rotorua, Thames, Taupo, Waitomo. I didn't see as much of the country as I wanted, but it was fun. On the return trip, the group we had was small so the bus driver made a stop in Hamilton to his parents house where his mom made us dinner. :)

When I was there I went skydiving, black water rafting, and got drunk in a hot spring with about 25 foreign people I had never met in my life. Great time.

I find it interesting that while Australia is a verible cess-pool of venomous, poisonous and other potentially dangerous organisms (snakes, insects, plants, coral reef, lion fish, blue ringed octopus, sharks, platypusses (platypie?), etc) New Zealand, OTOH, has like one venomous spider, which is totally rare and recluse anyway.

But yeah, from everything I've seen New Zealand looks to be one of the most beautiful places on earth. (LOTR was filmed there in case you didn't know).
