I am using dial-up and frequently when I dial in communication halts. I have to hook my system to a network and right click on the netwirk icon and select repair. This happens frequently. I cannot figure out why it is failing to communicate. Just out of the blue, a web page will no longer load, then nothing online will work, unless I do the repair trick. Any ideas?

I already did the repair. I'll have to wait for it to mess up again. Last time it happened I tried everything. I tried to ping ANYTHING, i even tried to make up IP's, ping friends machines, nothing went. The last time it happened, MSN messenger worked fine but IE, AIM, ICQ would not. I could not connect to other machines on the network also. I can dial in and it will connect, but nothing works. This time not even MSN worked.

10 to 1 it's a problem w your ISP that you can't do anything about (but switch ISP's and probably run into the same problem there). Over the course of years through many dial up ISP's I had the probably from time to time with all of them and had to drop/reconnect to get things back up and running. Unfortunately, I just accepted it as the way things are.

How often does it happen?

I can drop and reconnect and it still will not work. I thing it's a problem with my TCP-IP adapter. When it acts up, NOTHING will work. My lan connections, dialup, nothing. After the repair all is just fine. It was doing it on a daily basis but after a fresh install it does it once a month or two. It seems to get more frequent as time goes, then I do a fresh install and all is well for a few months, then slowly goes downhill from there.

still doing it, to fix it I need to connect to a LAN and repair. I tried to release/renew but that must be done while connected to a lan anyway so no idea why?
