Anyone using the new 1700+ T-breds on a K7D Master?

I want to get (2) 1700+ T-Breds Rev. A and run them on my K7D Master L. It should work right? The K7D Master can handle the T-Bred according to the MSI bios 1.5 page, but will it handle it in dual mode? I will most likely have to mod the L5 bridge.

Also on a side note, I am going to want to overclock them, so unlocking the T-bred rev A is pretty easy I hear. I think you just connect the L1 bridges (no need to fill in the gaps because they aren't any gaps)...

#1. there is no such thing as a 1700+ thoroughbred cpu. XP1700+ (Tbird) is what you want.

That's right. Only $60 (shipped) from Newegg for some XP1700 "Thoroughbred" lovin' ;) - Here's a link to their AMD CPU page where this processer is listed among the other AMD processors:

I am going to take it easy on you because you are new here.

There is no such thing as a 1700+ thoroughbred. Get it?

Thoroughbred starts at XP2200+. Thoroughbred is a new core design.

Their ad is in error.

I think you're the one you doesn't get it. There IS a 1700+ T-bred. Excerpt from Anand's own article:

The Thoroughbred core will be introduced at clock speeds that overlap with the older Palomino parts; more specifically, model numbers from 1700+ up to 2200+ will be made available in 0.13-micron Thoroughbred versions. The picture above shows the Thoroughbred with a brown organic package instead of the green substrate that was introduced with the 2100+, eventually all of the CPUs will be built on the green substrate it just so happens that all review samples were built on brown substrates. The only differences are strictly aesthetic.

I have never seen one. I thought that was just an idea they had. Sort of like the K6-3 500 cpu. They talked about it but none ever showed up.

If I am wrong then I am wrong. I have no problem admitting when I am wrong.

But will a new BIOS be needed to correctly identify it?

Motherboards with updated BIOS'es that suport 2200+ XP's (T-bred) should have no problem supporting 1700+ T-bred's but as always, its a good idea to check with the mobo manufacturer.

And believe it or not, I've seen a K6-3 500mhz although its the low power '+' version (K6-3+ 500mhz, 2.0v). I think it was meant for notebooks although mobos suporting 2.0v have no problem running it.

Users have provided reports on the CPUs that they received. Unfortunately the XP1700+ Thoroughbred is an "A" version CPU. Check out the following overclocking database: Thoroughbred OC Database - there is one XP1700+ listed in there running at 2.11 GHz. Now, that is sweet! :)

=) new? look rite under my name. I've been here for over 2 years. Just because I dont' post often doesnt' mean I'm new. And as you can already see, I at least do a little homework before posting. There is definitely a T-BRED 1700+. Not only did I know that, but I also knew that it ONLY came in REV. A as someone else also posted.

So now that we have gotten that sidetrack out of the way, can someone help answer my question please? Thanks!

To unlock the multipliers from 12.5 and down, short the 5th L3 bridge. There is no need to touch the L1 bridges on this core. To run it as a multiprocessor, mod the 4th L5 bridge. I wrote about this earlier here. Good luck. Peace.
