And that is one reason I asked the question originally. I live in the South....it gets quite hot (was 82 yesterday and we see >90 all summer) and I tow a boat, among other things, most every weekend.

I really don't think you'll have a problem (that's IMHO). The fact is that the OE oil used in your ride to do that isn't going to be anywhere close to as good as GC, so really, GC ought to be able to handle whatever you throw at it.

From what I can recall that's at least somewhat clear, and again this is heresay, the person in question lived in Australia or something like that. He ran it in his ride in their heat, and had an issue with it. And hence it was theorized that GC didn't like being run hard in high ambient heat conditions. But I'd have thought by now, with as widespread use that GC has, that if that were true for US ambient heat ranges, someone from AZ or NM would have piped up on one of the message boards talking about the doomed it foisted upon their engine. And I haven't seen anything like that (although, truthfully, I haven't been looking to have seen it).

You could try going over to BITOG forums, under the EU oil forum, and making a post about GC and higher loads + higher ambient heat. Maybe someone that's been around there for a long while and following GC would have some good knowledge on it.

Mine is 10W-60, but then again the back of the bottle says product of the EU not Germany.

Maybe I have EC?

I don't know what an EC is.

The term "German Castrol" "GC" refers only to the Castrol Syntec 0W-30 that has a "Imported from Germany" or "Imported from E.U." or something like that on the back. The first Castrol Syntec 0W-30 had yellow labeling and was from the US, and is not 'the good stuff'. I'm sure by now none of that is being sold, but hey, one never knows....

Well, bought the oil. At $5.40/qt, couldn't pass it up, even though AutoZone wouldn't let me substitute brands of oil filters. Had to "buy" the included damn Fram filter---left it on the counter. Not putting anything Fram on any vehicle I own.

Will be putting it in today when it gets light outside. Thanks for all the input!

BTW...it pays to read the freaking manual sometimes. 0W-30 is a recommended alternative for my Blazer....my only "real" concern in all this. DUH!

I forgot to say, if you look on the bottom of the bottom, or the edge of the bottle towards the bottom, there'll be a M03, M04, M05 and then some other numbers. The Mxx is the year, so 03 is 2003, 04 2004, etc. Just helps when there's a bunch of bottles in the rack, you can check them out and match them (not like it really matters, but still) to the number of bottles you're buying.

Yeah, that's what I thought. I never had a nice enough manager or sales staff who want to substitute the brand of filters for oil deals. Well, you can sell it on ebay or Craigslist or something.

I stopped by Pep Boys yesterday, and I could confirm my memory was correct - They do have 0w 30 German Castrol. I didn't grab them as the promo will last until April, but before it expires, I will probably grab like 15 bottles or more. lol.

They can;t sub as the computer would not give the discount.

Now what you might be able to do is return it without reciept and take the credit toward another filter. YMMV
