Hi all
I became fed up with my cable company, TWC, because they split the 6 channels I consistently watched into dirfferent packages hence effectively raising my cable bill by about $30, and also because their internet service in my area is extremely sub-par. I use internet at home mainly for playing games, watching movies, paying bills and talking to my old buddies around the world.
Anyways, I quit TWC after their connection became completely unstable to the point where I was unable to play any games, 3000+ ms latency and complete inturraptions, and their techs blamed my computer for a month and a half, I switched back to DSL and lo and behold I now have a perfect connection and pings ranging in 100-200 ms range to same game servers from same comp. I should also add that their techs were literal morons and did not comprehend the problems and only stayed focused on e-mail, web browsing and throughput, instead of addressing the issues. It was like dealing with waiters reading from que cards...
Now my problem is I do not have a good TV alternative.
I got an old model plasma with Composite Cable interface (RGB), no HDMI or anything, no tuner, I have a a home theater system, also older, and I live in an apartment.
I looked at satellite, but I do not have a south direction facing window or balcony so they would have to run everything from the roof to which I normally do not have access, also their contracts are all screwed up, and I will be moving from here in next few months. Their fees for such things are just too much. So I am not sure what else can I do for TV, if anything.
I recently looked into Sezmi, http://www.sezmi.com/ which is available in my area and they claim to have cable channels available over broadband for about $20 a month. Sounds great. So I went to Best Buy and took a look at the demo there, to 2 different stores in fact. None of them had the demo set-up properly and the sales people were just too ignorant about detailed information.
Now what I see on the demo, is that there are no cable channels available whatsoever, only movies on demand which are all pay-per-view with prices ranging from $1.95 to $3.99 each. I want to know about the stuff that these guys advertise on their website, the available cable programming, I need the channels.
The 2nd thing is, all the demos were extremely choppy to the point of being mostly unwatchable, and I do not know if it was the way these things were set-up in the stores, or are they just simply bad and work like that. Just how much broadband do I need for these things to run reasonable smooth ?
I would appreciate anyone giving me some feedback or perhaps other alternatives that are less expensive then cable. I looked into FIOS and Uverse, but those are basically same priced and with similar package divisions, so kinda out the window.
What else is there ?
