As for my home lab, building the fastest openfiler/freenas targets.
I been trying to find benchmark for nested raid as one of the vmware specialist have told me he's been using nexenta with a nested raid.
ie you use hardware mirror for fault tolerance on 2 drives, raid 1, you create a bunch of raid 1 drives and using software to build a raid 0 array out of them. He tells me the speed is a lot faster than regular hardware raid. which kinda make sense. Raid 5 type of storage are sluggish because of parity, 0 or 1 does not calculate parity.
Before i go out and spend a ton of time on this, was wondering if anyone else is doing the same.. Currently i have a msa50 and msa70.. just takes time to build and test.
