I'm wanting to upgrade my ram and give my current ddr3 1600 to my stepson, but I don't know if 2400 will work. It only officially supports up to 2133, but on the asrock site, it lists Geil 2400 as working. Does anyone use Mushkin redline 2400 or G. Skill Trident 2400 (2 x 8 GB)?

Thanks!

1. Extreme 3 gen 3 is...what, exactly? Z68? Z77? Z87? We don't all keep up with confusing mobo manufacturer model names and numbers.

2. Why 2400? Why not 1600, with tighter timings?

Ive used mushkin 2133 CL9 with that board, but I believe Z68/SB is locked down to 2133mhz and wont support 2400.
