Anyone using Comcast's economy tier for Internet?

If so, what speeds are you getting at this test site?

I've been thinking about switching from Cavalier to Comcast's everyday double play which is 49.95 for 768k and digital phone. Right now I'm paying about $20 for theoretically faster Internet and phone, but the Internet is commonly very slow (as in youtube videos lag). According to the CNET test, I am often only getting speeds between 200k and 400k, and I really want to be at 768k (I don't want to be any slower, and I have no need to go faster).

I'm paying $19.99/month for comcast 6 Mbps speeds :)

Just call Comcast and ask about their promotions. Most likely they'll give you 6 months for $20. Then once the 6 months pasts, call comcast again and threaten to cancel. They'll probably give you the same promotion again or a similar one.

Well, I am trying to reduce costs. I don't do much downloading at all. Maybe, I'll download a Linux distro via BT once every few months, and I do not care if it takes overnight.

I've just downgraded to this 768k plan, they lowered my cable fee but gave me more channels too, so my monthly comcast bill went from $110-120/month to about $76. I am consistently getting at least 750k, and yes everything takes longer to download, but it is still fast enough that no lag with youtube video, and it is not that slow that I am willing to pay comcast more money to demand my old speed back.

Thanks for the input. That sounds good.

No, I have DSL, and it is terrible in my area. I commonly get 200k-400k at the CNET test site. Often it is not even fast enough to watch low-quality youtube videos.

You know what they say about guys with internet speeds that fast. They are trying to compensate for something else.... ;)

320kbps DSL download here! Living in Alaska sucks.... I could get faster, but the price goes up quickly.

I just called comcast, only gave me 29.99 for 6 months for 6mb internet, but at least that's almost half price I was paying.

My comcraptic results. False because they speeds aren't sustained, they're just basically good for these stupid internet bandwidth tests.
Last Result:
Download Speed: 19545 kbps (2443.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 1923 kbps (240.4 KB/sec transfer rate)

The cnet thing is funny. I've run it several times here at work and gotten results ranging from 2200 kbps to 6600 kbps...

For money reasons, I just dropped down from the $43 HSI (where I used to get ~24,000kbps down/2,200kbps up...DL likely skewed by their SpeedBoost or PowerBoost or whatever it's called) to the Economy tier. The rep said it was supposed to be 2Mbps down/384kbps up. When I got home and tested it, I am only getting 760kbps down (the up is aobut 370kbps). I mean, I can get DSL for less or faster for this price. Hopefully it will get fixed or something. I was expecting the speed drop, but aside from e-mail and simple pages, this is a crawl!
