AMR is crappy. PCI is better. ISA Hardware is better yet.

Its not an improvement like AGP, it is meant to save computer makers $1 or so.

I can agree that an ISA or PCI hardware modem is better (though I can't justify the cost), but why would a PCI winmodem be better? To me they're both softmodems and the AMR doesn't take an IRQ does it?

It shows my AMR modem sharing irq 7. MgMorden has a good point, why is a pci winmodem better?

Who cares about modems anyways? Broadband is much faster than any 56k modem! If you ask me all phone modems are basically the same. Slow!!!!!!!

Well, you see not everyone can get cable or DSL. Personally when I'm in my dorm room my connection will put most cable modems to shame but that's another story. Right now I'm at my parents home for the summer and modem is the only option.

I'm using one on my ECS board, it has a dedicated AMR slot so I figured why not take advantage of it. Seems to work as well as any of my PCI winmodems in win98se or 2k pro. Oh and if broadband craps out you can still get online.

I've put a few AMR modems in for people who were on a *very limited budget. I saw no difference in performance at all between them and a winmodem assuming the PC was 400MHZ+.

With todays CPU's you won't see a difference between and software and hardware modems except the price.

I stuck a cracker in my AMR, that way I have something to munch on the next time I open my case...to drop in the nForce mobo in another 2-3 months.

AMR modems are not very plentiful. You can find MUCH better qualith WINMODEMs that are PCI, tho there is not much difference between them.

For whoever said there is no difference between a winmodem and a hardmodem for 500+Mhz computers.... Um a winmodem drops my frame rate by 20% more than a hardware modem. I use broadband though so I guess it doesn't matter/

My gigabyte 7ZX came with one of those slots. I really love this board, very stable. As for any modem now a days, they're are pretty much the same like someone said. They're all slow! :)

Some people just don't understand that Broadband isn't avaliable everywhere. Geesh, the majority of you are spoiled!!!
