anyone using just a PDA, pocket PC, Palm, Axim, etc....... with a foldable keyboard? do you use the infrared universal keyboard or the one specifically for your PDA? how is it for just taking notes? I was just about to buy a laptop until this came to mind, all i need is something that can do txt files, doesnt even need to be spell checked.... anyone doing this and have any thought on it vs. a laptop? thanks

I have one made for my PDA but it's a pita to type with so I'm thinking of getting the infrared universal one.

yup. I use a Targus Folding keyboard along with an old Sony Clie n760c. It works decently well as a word procesor and I still get complements on it everyday. It also folds up nicely and stores up well. The only gripe I have is that the flash memory on my clie isn't quite as reliable as a hard drive and in my first few trials, I learned that once my clie shuts itself off, all the memory is gone, so best be to save your work on the removeable media drive.

how would u say it types vs. a laptop kb?

No comparison. A full laptop keyboard is much better than the fold out one's for PDA's. I used to take notes on my PDA's using the Targus folding keyboard, and then the HP folding keyboard, and there was a large curve because the keys are like 33% smaller or something. I personally will never go back to it because of that.

based on these facts.... i guess I'll get a lappy, the whole reason I need it is im too slow of a writer, but I can type almost as fast as I talk...... thanks for all ur input, saved me from buying a PDA /keyb then having to deal w/ reselling it again ^^

yes, but so does carrying a laptop bag...... so youre faced with the dillema of looking like a nerd outside of the classroom vs. having it in your wallet.... nontheless ...... unless i find a really GG pda kb... lappy gogo

I dunno, how can you really take good notes with just a word processor... What about diagrams, or math equations, etc. I can see how it would work for a fairly straightforward text class, like a history class or something though. I could never see one being used for something like physics or calculus...

PDA screen tech has improved considerably over the past few years so if you haven't used one in a while you might want to check it out. Of course some screens are just way better than others. I love my Tungsten C screen, it's very bright yet soft on the eyes.

get a sublaptop or tabletpc. lol, don't know what your budget is.

my budget is ~$1500, but If i could spend a hell of a lot less and have the same product I rather do that... since i gotta pay back that loan money sometime, how much do sub-laptops go for? where can you buy these?

my prof's actually dont do any sketches ( and when they do its not the sorta thing i usually gotta jot down ) , im just purely writing out law stuff, it doesnt even need to be spelled right until i transfer it to PC~ anyone else have a suggestion on a really good PDA KB? thx
