Was wondering if anyone was using the Artic Cooling S1 passively on their 8800GTS G92 core video card? I just installed it on mine and after playing BF2 for about 30 minutes it either locks up or I get video artifacts. When I check the temps their at about 82 which is within operating temps...

I don't think passive cooling is sufficient for any 8800 series card.
I've seen a review of an AC S2 on a sparkle 8800gt & that was struggling to stay in the 70c range at ide!

However there is a simple solution. Get a 800-1000rpm 120mm fan & attach it to the S1 with cable ties (or buy the turbo module for $15). This will drastically reduce temps while still being silent.

My HR-03 would work passively, but I would not trust that for the summer months coming. It goes about 73C Load on passive (which still beats out stock fan)

I run a S2 on my 9600GT "passive", with idle temps of about 38C and load under 55C. But I have a P182 case, and there's a low speed 120mm fan setup right by the video card.

I see you also have a P182... did you setup a middle 120mm fan? (middle as in attached to the middle hard drive chamber).

Just keep in mind that a 800 rpm 120 mm fan is inaudible. It's like using the heatsink passive. So, there is no point in running the card silent at high temperatures, when you can run it just as silent, at lower ones. ;)

I run my s1 passively on an 8800gt, but with case fans providing good cooling. It never goes above 65C. GTS would run a little hotter, but 82 seems really high. Either install some additional case fans, or simply attach a fan to the s1.

You need memory heatsinks to run passive, so I can't. Stupid little grey blocks fell off.
