Anyone using 560Ti at 1440p?

I have the GTX 560Ti 1GB. It runs everything I play at solid 60fps with 4x MSAA on 1680x1050. I also do a lot of programming. I want to get a bigger IPS monitor. I'm having to decide between the 24" 1920x1200 248Q or 2412m, or getting one of the Korean monitors. Is anyone running 1440p with this card or something similar? Does it run games OK with no AA, or is it just a bad idea?

I could continue gaming on the 22" monitor and just use the 27" for code, but then I wonder if I should just get the 24" which could do both.

I could eventually upgrade my graphics card to do 1440p, but then I'd probably have to get a new PSU as mine is just 550w which would make it that much more expensive an upgrade.

Not sure how a 560ti would do on 1440, I wouldn't think it would be that good though. Just to let you know though you could easily run a new 600 series card off that 550w PSU, the new cards are a lot more efficient, that 560ti probably uses more power than a 670.

Is there a fundamental problem running that resolution with a mid range card like the 560ti? Or is it just that much more demand which you can trade AA or other settings for?

I mostly run older (2006 era) games, obviously I wouldn't be able to max BF3 at 1440. Good to hear about the PSU.

Lets take Max Payne 3.
It's superbly optimized but you won't be able to run it VERY HIGH.

But there are no fundamental problems running that resolution.

Running 560 Ti at 1440p should be comparable to running GTX 460 at 1080p,
if-and-only-if you're not running out of VRAM.

If you cut out AA vram probably won't be an issue.

You could use FXAA, though processing power will be limited anyways.

It's possible to run that res with a single 560 Ti, not optimal or the best.

If you're ok with FXAA over MSAA and are content with lowering settings where applicable you'll be fine with the higher res screen.

I too have been pondering a 1440p monitor and I'm using a similar card. As others have said, VRAM is likely to be an issue. Can anybody comment on how games look like at 1440p without AA?

On the subject of the Korean monitors, I would not get one. Instead I would get a domestic alternative.

Your 560 Ti will be short on memory at 1440p but if you lower settings you should get a decent experience. At these high resolutions less AA is necessary, 2x MSAA is fine for most games and looks similar to 4x AA at 1080p. FXAA is a better alternative as it has a minimal FPS drain when it is enabled and doesn't use any VRAM.

You can't max out even without any form of Aa or af. That requires at least a 670 for many games or 7970 stock at least. For Aa you need 670 sli or 7950 cf. you could do med settings at best.

Only a very few games out there *need* the absolute highest end video cards for good frame rates on a 2560 screen with max settings.

I have off and on popped my trusty old GTX 285 in my main rig just to see how well it still does and usually there is hardly a noticable difference.

I imagine that'll all change when the new console generation comes around and console ports are more demanding. Until then even a 448 560 ti will do very well as long as you don't run out of frame buffer.

I find that modded Skyrim is an excellent vram tester, lol. My particular set of mods @ 2560 x 1400 4xAA can get up to around 2.8gb of vram usage. 8XAA will cause lots of texture swapping.

There is no fundamental problem at all. It is simply a matter of pixel counts. Make sure to use a cable that can handle the bandwidth. (It should come with the monitor)
