Anyone using 1.5GB RAM (1x1GB/1x512MB) in a S939 board?

I'm wanting to upgrade from 2x512 RAM, but I don't want to run 4x512 on my Newcastle CPU. Buying 2X1GB is a little more than I want to spend right now, so I was thinking about just getting 1x1GB now and running it with one of my 512 sticks for now.

At a later time I would likely buy another 1GB stick so I coud run 2x1GB. I know BF2 likes >1GB RAM, and It seems FEAR does also (have the game but haven't started playing it yet). So I was thinking that this would be a good option until I can afford a second GB stick.

Any thoughts on this?

is dual channel not important?

i understood that RAM speeds were pretty important, particularly with CPU/RAM intensive games such as F.E.A.R...

It does help some, but it can easily be made up with capacity.
Dual channel gives ~2-5% performance increase (depending on the application) to RAM running in single channel.
