Anyone uses H&R BLOCK to file taxes? What are their fees?

What fees do they charge? Don't they also cut you a check on spot? What % do they take for this service?

A LOT.

Had mine done there last year. 1040 long because of itemized deductions. $116. Ouch!

This year I just did it online at turbotax.com for $45.

Can't answer check on the spot services, didn't look into it.

I e-filed with them for free, as long as your taxable income is less than such and such an amount you can too.

Yes, for federal. If you want consultation or you want to add on state, it's more. But for federal, you can e-file and have them wire it to your account even at no charge.

I just checked the H&R block website and couldnt locate where I can file for free. There seems to be a charge of $20 or so for their lowest e-file service.

Anyone have a link to the free one?

There's a long list of sites you can do it through on the IRS's site that I posted. Some let you sneak in up to $30k. There are stipulations on most, though. H & R is free only for federal and not state, but many states don't have a seperate income tax so the issue is moot.

hehe thanks, since I was typing so slow you answered me before I get to post the first question to the thread. I am registering with H&R filing right now.

Just go out and buy TaxCut if nothing else. That's what the H&R reps use in their tax centers :)

I've seen those commercials where H & R Block offers to look over your past 2 years of returns to re-calculate them (see if you missed anything, etc.). They say they do it for FREE (plus a $25 re-filing charge).

Has anyone tried this?

Was it easy?
