I can see one of this CNR slot in almost every board they make currently.
Does anyone actually use this slot
(say.. for communication and networking?)
I wonder why they put this slot on the aboard though if they don't sell the board without the "riser card?" pre-installed in it.
 
I hate those slots as they are essentially useless to an end user. It seems motherboard makers that rely on OEM sales, like Asus and Gigabyte, use these. I will not buy a board with one of these, and it's one of the big reasons why I avoid Asus...
 
I use the CNR slot in my CUSL2-C for an Intel Pro/100VE NIC. Got it for ~$20 in the FS/FT forum... not sure where (if) you can find them retail, though.

CNR? Do you mean that useless connector on some motherboards? You know, they could put that conector on the board and not hook up any traces to it, and nobody would know the difference. It'd still do the same thing... nothing!😀
 
Yah I think CNR and AMR slots are gonna go down the tubes soon. If you want to save 2 bucks go integrated. If you want a little better proformance, go PCI. No brainer.
