So I got rid of my Visioneer scanner and got a Canoscan N1240U. The problem, which I posted before is that every time windows XP starts up (after I log in) it takes an extra 30 seconds before the desktop comes up. This happens right after I install the drivers for the scanner. And yes I did install XP drivers for both scanners. A fresh install of XP didn't help either.

Like I stated before, first nothing happens, then the scanner makes some noise, then nothing for a while longer then the desktop comes up. This exact same thing happens with both scanners. Now if I disable the WAI (windows imaging acquisition) service then it loads the desktop just fine. I can then start the service manually. This is driving me crazy....

Anyone have any suggestions?

TIA

Seems like a pretty simple fix. Disable WAI. I just installed a new Epson 2450 PhotoScanner - USB 2.0 interface or Firewire. That automatic stuff sucks - you pay a price for it. Control your system the old fashioned way.

If I disable WIA then the scanner doesn't work. I have to then goto the computer management, services and enable....

Hm, I thought the WAI stuff was sort of optional as long as a standard twain driver was provided. Have you tried scanning from your favourite graphics app with WAI disabled?

I'm using my free Visioneer 8100(thank you Hot Deals:)) just fine in XP. I only scan occasionally so I did not install the Visioneer disk with Paperport and the drivers. I just let XP use it's built in drivers and everything's fine.
