Anyone used Pergo or similar laminate floor?

It depends on your climate. I have heard that it expands and shrinks with moisture changes and temperature changes.

We installed a laminate floor in a room about a year ago. I can't remember the brand but it was the glueless, locking king - I think ClassicLock or QuickLock. We bought it at Menards, but they also have it cheaper at Sam's Club - around $27 per pack of flooring. Installation was easy - around 4 hours for a 12x12 room and after a year it still looks great, and we have a dog that is in that room constantly as well - no scratches.

Don't put laminate down over real hardwood 🙂. Your dogs aren't going to hurt the real stuff either. If you have to constantly mop it because of mud it will wear out the shine if you use glossy polyurethane but even that takes awhile. Even if they did screw up the real stuff you can just refinish it before you sell the house and real wood will look better to a buyer.

We had real HW floors in our last house and they scratched it all up.....it was horrible
You would think they would eventually learn that they can grip better without claws extended.....apparently not

Even my parents 180lb great dane doesn't scratch up their floor. How many coats of urethane did you put down?

I did not coat them myself, they were there when we bought it.

I think its more to do with the excitability of the dogs than size, we have two 60-70lb dogs, and every time the door bell goes they flip out and go charging to the door, then extend claws to apply brakes.

They also like to chase each other around the house with toys etc.

I had heard there was a coating to apply to HW which will virtually prevent scratching, but having called a local flooring contractor, he basically said if your dogs are excitable - its going to scratch

You could could put 20 coats and all finninshes for HW scratch.

Our two dogs were the same way, but didn't scratch our hardwood. I think you had something wrong.

only thing I don't like about it is it definantly looks fake, other then that, cheap, easy install, and very durable.. the pro's def out weigh the cons
