Well... I was watching 2 Fast 2 Furious with my friend yesterday, and they use a ton of it, just like in the first movie. Anyone here ever used it? Just curious, but how much of a speed boost does it give on average and how much does one tank of it cost, if the tanks vary in size, how about one for a 15 second boost?
 
soxide is just a proprietary name for glycerin....
There are a lot of other brands on the market

AgaBooga, I was going to make a serious response, but every time I start reading and see "average speed boost" "15 second boost" I honestly want to beat you for your ignorance. 😛 But here goes.

How much of a speed boost does it give on average?
Impossible to answer. Too many different factors. They'll give you a rated boost in horsepower, but it's up to the rest of the drivetrain to get it down to the wheels.

How much does one tank of it cost?
Tanks vary in size. Smallest I've seen was a 2.5lb "Cheater Kit" bottle, biggest was a 15lb. Depending on who you go to, expect to pay between $2 and $3 a pound.

How about one for a 15 second boost?
If you want to melt your engine, just toss it in a smelting oven. 2F2F is not real. You will not just push the big "NAWZ" button and watch your world melt into a blur. It's ridiculously easy to blow an engine apart if improperly used.

Oh yeah - and what exactly are you planning on putting this in? 😛

Hey guys, there is no such thing as a dumb question. If he knew the answer, he would not have asked, give the kid a break. Not everyone knows everything about everything like you guys.

As for the NOS question....

here ever used it? - Yes, on my 1998 Mustang GT. I was running 250 horsepower shot (Meaning when you trigger the NOS, it instantly hits 250 extra hp.

Just curious, but how much of a speed boost does it give on average? - Depends on how much NOS your engine is set up to handle. Most stock engines can get away with 75 hp boost. After that, you need forged pistons, upgraded fuel systems, cold cold cold sparkplugs, etc. 75hp boost, it makes a mustang feel like your stomped gas pedal was actually half way, and you just mashed your pedal. At 250hp boost, you hit the gas pedal for the second mildly modified 4.6L V8 you have under your hood.

how much does one tank of it cost, if the tanks vary in size, how about one for a 15 second boost? - My 10lb cost $35 each to fill (Ran tandem tanks). I could get about 15 hits with it on a quarter mile, but that was only hitting it in 4th and 5th gear. Any lower, and my back tires would give it up.

Biggest tip I can give is READ READ READ before you use NOS. If you go lean on fuel, you burn heads, pistons, and worse. If you go too rich, you blow apart your intake, airbox, and every air operated sensor in your intake (Like I did. Ford's composite intakes don't like nitrous explosions in them.)

If used properly, it works great. If abused, it is costly.

Most people, when you type NO2, they are like wtf? Nitrous Oxide Systems is the biggest name in nitrous systems, and is what people reconize, right wrong or indifferent.

When you've installed the systems I have, then you can chastize me. I've ran nitrous on everything from a 5hp Briggs (Didn't last long, but was funny as hell to watch) to 4 cyl to Pontiac V6's to a blown Merlin 640 with a 500hp hotshot on it, pushing 3184 horsepower.

Gee, I think I struck a nerve. ( On a nitpick here, wouldn't the "proper" abbreviation be "N2O"? 😛 )

I would think that someone who's "installed the systems you have" would understand how it gets just a little annoying when everyone is saying "do0d, you're gettin NAWZ" and throwing the term around like it means "Nitrous Oxide". A good chunk of them wouldn't even know WTF you were talking about if you mentioned NX or Zex.
