anyone used K & N Air filters

Hmm..if only there were some device or function that let you specifically sort for threads by some type of subject or keyword.

Filtration... BZZZZZZT

i agree. i'm pretty sure it is k&n, but i know 1 cai kit for the mr2 spyder in it's revision 1 form would not flter well enough and over time let too much particles that were too big slip past the filter into the engine causing eventual damage.I suggest go injen or hks or some other brand.

hey're like the fram(oil) of air filters. somehow they get a reputation for being good while being really bad at filtering.

power increases anywhere from 4-8 hp(for the entire intake system) on open throttle depending on how bad the stock intake was. mileage gain is either negligible or minimal(1mpg mabye?).

The 4HP (on a good day) you got from that CAI isn't that great, trust me.

I believe VW 1.8Ts can gain 30HP from a single computer chip.

Doesn't that VW have turbo? Not that difficult to reprogram the ecu to produce more power with a turbo charged engine.

How much hp increases can you expect on a NA engine via chipping?

Back to the point. They're certainly better than the generic peice's of crap I pull out of the cars I own, I'm not sure if they really help performance though.

I guess I'd take someones word but it's a little hard to believe. Being that they're so cheap there's no reason not to pick one up imo.

only 4hp at max hp. CAI give you way more than 4hp in mid-range and you can't chip all cars and produce the hp gain an VW/Audi does.

Prove it. Prove to me that you can find a CAI for a car that pulls any significant gains from real dyno, not a CAI-sponsored one. Sure with $8,000 worth of other mods you can see a 15HP gain, but just a CAI isn't going to do much.

n00b.

Run your car at the track a number of times with stock air filter to get a baseline 1/4 mile time. Then install K&N, and run your car again. You will find little if any difference in your timeslips.

Get a nitrous kit.

"investment" and "aftermarket bolt on car part" really shouldn't be in the same sentance without a word like "bad" included in there somewhere.

basically from "bolt-on" i meant your basic Intake, headers, and exhaust people buy when they first buy their car and seeing you can get CAI's for $100 to $150.

Are cold air intakes worth it???? I'm contemplating one on my newly acquired 2002 x-type 3.0, it's about 180 to get one, that or the K&N.

Yup, right next to that Type R sticker.

hahaha

some of you are funny...

A Cold Air Intake might *MIGHT* increase the horsepower by .5 even if it were in the wide open and in very cold air...

Think I'm full of it? Do it to your car and go dyno it... Tell me if you even see a difference...

Did you know that a real hood scoop back in day (late 60's early 70's) and if it was sealed to the carb was worth up to 20HP at top end?

Its true.

Yes, because back then the entire intake system consisted of a circular filter over a carb and nothing else. Hell my MINI has a "ram air" intake stock.

i believe spoon and mine's specialize in remapping the ECU for NA's and turbo's respectively, and they do give you a pretty good power boost.
