A friend is wanting to upgrade his PC's to flat panels for as little as possible. The LM-500 seems to fit the bill. Anyone have any personal opinions of these panels? I get conflicting opinions on searching the web - somewhere between 'fantastic especially for the money' and 'below average'. I got one recently but I haven't really had the chance to use it - and I wanted more opinions as to longer-term reliability since he wants to use these at the office.

I have seen it at a couple of PC shows and was unimpressed and would rate it as below average. If your buddy does not want to shell out the clams for quality equipment than why upgrade at all.

Well - good point, but most of his PC's at the office are of PII/400 vintage, and he merely wants to tidy up the office desks giving staff more workspace. Giving staff extremely good monitors is unnecessary as the sum of what they do would be Word & Excel. I just bought mine because I needed 'any old monitor' for my older PC and it was dirt cheap yet came with a 3-year warranty.

Given that caveat, what does anybody else think?

Actually, my family friend manufactures these LCDs and so he gave an LM-500 to me for free which I am currently using. I'm certainly not disappointed with it. However, when it comes to monitor quality, I'm really not an expert on it. I do use it for FPS gaming with my GF3. The best thing about the monitor is that it has an auto adjust feature which corrects the levels of the monitor whenever you switch from gaming to Windows or whatnot. The monitor has one dead pixel on it, but other than that, I've been using it for 6 months and it's been great. I would recommend it especially if you are looking for low cost LCDs. You shouldn't be disappointed.
