X10

I want to see who's coming up my front steps.

And who or what (animal) is walking behind my house.

I figure wireless webcams that only record when there's motion to be a good solution.

What do you recommend?

Thx

They were junk.
Try d-links networked wireless cams.

Motion detection and record software.
I use the DCS-900W. (not shown but has an antenna)
Wireless.
Networked so you can tap into and view from most
any pc on the net. But you have to configure port forwarding
on the router. And some companies block access for security,
if you plan to view from a work pc.
Dlink's cs was above par in walking me thru the port forward thing
and configure of the cams.
I use 4 of them to keep track of the dogs at home. the back yard,
and the front yard.

PS. DONT USE first alerts cams. They look cute and small but their
wireless freq messes with 24ghz wireless phones and also first alerts
wireless cams will wipe out any wireless router.
They bleed over any other 24ghz

X10.... ugh.... double ugh.... UGH X100

a guy I do computer work for invested in 6 of their cameras and had me install them. I'd never done a wireless camera setup before this, but have 25+ years computer experience.

Was the WORST experience in my life, difficult doesn't even describe the ordeal I had. I was on the phone with their tech support a bunch of times. Regardless of what channel I had a camera on, I was getting interference from another. And that was when they actually worked, they seemed to work when they wanted and would just stop for no reason. I never got his setup working 100%. X10 is the worst company I've ever dealt with, and the cameras were a complete joke. Even when they worked the quality was so piss poor I wondered who actually would find them useful.
