Anyone use warrenty for IBM/Lenovo t42?

Anyone use this so called great warrenty?

My screen seems to have dark spots on it from what i read, they are cause by uneven or damaged backlights. Not sure if this is correct, but that was the best i can find for explantion of what my screen has from defects of others.

But i need to know how fast is this warrenty. According to the "Access IBM" program this laptop is covered with a 3yr warrenty. But the problem is i don't think I'll be able to go past a week without the laptop (it is my main computer for college).

So anybody with IBM/Lenovo warrenty experience please let me know how thier service work and how quickly they work.

Thanks,
Chris

They will overnight/2-day you a box to send your laptop in, they will most likely ship the laptop back to you the same day they receive it via overnight.

Supposed to have it back to you within 72 hours after they pick it up from you. It's their default depot warranty service.... THe one time I had to use it... Had it back within 72 hours.

I packed and shipped a T-42 w/ a bad MB at lunchtime Friday (in the self-addressed, postage-paid box they overnighted me the day before) and it was waiting for me at my desk when I arrived at work this morning.

IBM = worth every penny

Yep you can say that again 😀

WOW again

One more question, does the serial numbers all stay the same? they just fix the problem right not give you a new box.

Do i need to clean the HD off when i send it?

Unless you have some stuff to be concerened about I would make a ghost image of the harddrive and formatt it , otherwise keep things as they are but make sure you have them protected, anyways whn they diagnose your laptop they are going to remove your hdd, and put their own that is preloaded with testing software, and once they are done they are going to put back your harddrive and check if all is running and good 😉

no i don't have anything to hide lol, just wondering if i am going to have to install all the software again lol.

Thanks again

Back it up if you are able..... Image it, or at least capture all work/personal data.....

No Vendor guarantee's the safety of your data when sent in for service - Regardless of the problem it's sent in for.

I just sent my T42 in a couple weeks ago. The service is indeed fast. Also, about the HDD issue: with the box they sent me was a form that included, among other things, a line where you had to sign to authorize them to mess with the data on the HDD. If you don't sign that, they don't mess. This means, though, that they'll just send it back to you if preserving the data prevents them from fixing the issue(unlikely in your case). They are pretty used to dealing with people who care a lot about their data.

Yeah i don't have too much data to backup as i only have had the laptop for one month and i still own all the copys of the software installed so messing with the data will be up to IBM.. i just want my screen to be nice and clear lol.

I am going to call them to send me the box when i get home.

Thanks for all the help.
