Anyone use Wal-Mart's digital photo printing ?

They print on Fuji photo paper

26¢ a picture.. not too bad

I think they need to be sent to a lab though.. not done in store.

Wondering if anyone used it, how you would compare to home printing on a inkjet with photo paper

And if the 26¢ one's need to be sent to a lab, are digital prints available in store (one-hour-photo)...
If so, what's the cost ?

I'm assuming you bring in a CF or SM or upload to them then pick up your prints locally or have them mailed to you?

upload SUCKS. the system doesn't like me. the local walmart's system is always down, but they do have a minilab there.

basically, if you're local walmart is good, they'll take your memory, or a cd, and print away. I'm not that lucky... but the print quality is excellent. For those of you that really into it, you'll want the color profile for the the fuji frontier.. sams club uses it sometimes in house as well. I'm not sure if the upload for walmart/sams goes to the same place or not. if you go to the dpreview printer forum, you can find the link for the icc profile.

not every location can do it mind you... my local sams club and costco are oblivious to digital printing.

I don't think you can go wrong w/ either, just go for what's convenient, and that works well for you. If you want the least amount of fuss, take shots of as many various things as you can, and get them all "developed" from both places, and see which one you like better. As far as walmart goes, the quality for 4x6 is excellent. btw, i'm almost sure both walmart and sam's use the same stuff, for obvious reasons. Altho, i think if you do sam's online (and are a member), it's a couple of cents cheaper compared to walmart.

I have a canon s820 so i can have instant gratification and satin papers, but even w/ the canon paper, on up close examination, the walmart printout is much more continuous in tone (ie, no dots). I still love my s820 and pretty much only use it.. i can do borders and what i want and not put up w/ the crap of finding a place locally to print. I did an 8x10 to compare to shutterfly and it beat the crap out of it (yes, i'm plugging the printer ).

Just try it is what i'm saying, at a quarter or so a pic, it won't kill ya

BTW, never ever let ritz do prints for you... I had the unfortunate experience of having to rely on a print from them. It left the image lacking.. and at $10 for an 8x10? BLAH.

I gave my sister a CD with pictures from my 4.2mp camera... they were of her kid mostly that I took at a family gathering. She printed several at WalMart in 4x6 and told me they look better/sharper than any 35mm point and shoot film pictures she has ever had developed. I haven't seen them yet, but this is encouraging. And at .26 a shot, I'm tempted to print some out just to see what they look like in a format other than on my screen!

P.S. I did not editing, just dumped the images into a CD-R for her. She browsed the CD at home and wrote out the file names of the ones she wanted printed and brought the CD in with the list. She said they did it right there on site while she waited.

The place that gives better results will be the place that uses the new Fuji Fronteir machines. All walmarts in the country are gradually changing to them, so I'd guess Sams will as well. To the best of my knowledge, costco uses two different machines accross the country, one being the fuji.

A word of advice: Make sure before you upload or bring the image in that you crop it yourself! For example, a 2mp image is not in ratio for a 4x6, and if you give them the image they will crop it dead in the center, which most times isn't what you want!

ah yes... i forgot about this, very important. Photoshop 7 has a really nice crop tool to let you do ratios... i dunno about previous versions. I think elements has it too.

Here's what I'm aware of in regards to the Wal-Mart service:

-> You can upload your digital photos at Wal-Mart.com
-> You have the choice of either matte or glossy finish (the stores are usually limited to only matte finish)
-> You have the option of having your prints sent to you (you pay for the shipping).
-> You also have the option of having your prints delivered to your local Wal-Mart store about a week after you have uploaded them (you don't pay for shipping with this option, only .26 a print).

I haven't tried the service yet, but it does sound quite promising.

Thanks for the info, I might upload then pickup at Walmart B&M a week later.

If I upload I wonder if the Fuji Fronteir machine will make my print or another machine?
