Normally I do my own oil changes on my old Volvo, but I am overdue for one and since my driveway currently resembles Siberia I figured I'd rather pay the extra to get someone else to do it.

So I go to Valvoline oil change place last night and the guy comes out and asks if I need an oil change, then he says you know about our foreign car surcharge right - No - its and extra $10, so instead of $31.95 (which seems really expensive anyway) it will be $41.95.....WTF?

So I left....I can buy 4 Qts of oil and a filter for $10.

Is this a Valvoline policy or juat that location...seems kinda weird to me.

It does seem like a rip. Filters are pretty standard. I went to Sears Auto to get mine done just because its the only place around here I can get Castrol regular. Most all of the Shops here have Valvoline since the World HQ is just down the street.

Edit, btw I drive a Volvo V40, my old car was an 850 turbo, and the car before that was a 960.

That doesnt seem much more than the local places charge.

I change my own oil in my truck, but I take my car into the dealership to have them change it, since I do not have ramps or anything to allow me to get under the thing. I just provide them with a K&N oil filter I buy myself, and some AMSOIL and they only charge $15

If you go to Valvoline for an oil change you're getting ripped off anyway. You deserve whatever you get. Heh heh.

GO to a local tire/mechanic shop. Usually lots of coupons around and such. Just saw one for $13 the other day.
