Anyone use their 2005FPW with game consoles?

I tried plugging in both my Gamecube and Xbox using the composite in into my Dell 2005FPW and it stretches the image to fill the screen. Is there any way to make the video look better? It looks pixelated and terrible right now. Should I go with the S-Video in instead of the composite? Would that make the image look better?

You don't have to have the monitor stretch the image...You can select Aspect or 1:1 to keep the image in its original aspect ratio (and display the pixels one-to-one in a tiny box in the middle of the screen in the case of the 1:1 option). At least, I assume those options work for S-Video and composite...although it's been ages since I've used anything other than DVI. And yeah, S-Video will probably be a bit better than Composite (or at least it is in theory).

Yeah I just tried keeping the image 1:1 and the video is so damn small on the screen now. Maybe I should just stick with gaming on the TV, unless if I can find a way to have the Xbox output at a higher resolution with S-Video or something. I'm not sure if that's even possible lol.

S-Video is limited to 480i too, unfortunately. No matter what you do, it's not going to look that great on a monitor with like 6 times the pixels as the original signal :p

You said you tried 1:1, but have you tried Aspect too (assuming that's still available on that input)? It would keep the full height of the monitor, with black bars on the sides so the 4:3 aspect ratio would be maintained. It still won't look that great since it's being scaled up a whole lot, but at least it would be in the correct aspect ratio and not stretched horizontally (or squished vertically, depending on how you look at it;))

 do the older models or newer models have these inputs? Isn't the OP's a 2005fpw, why are they different?

The 2005 comes with Composite Inputs. (Y, R, W) which typically have a maximum resolution of 480i?

The 2405 comes with Composite and Component Inputs (B, G, R, R, W) which typically have a maximum of 1080i? (or can they do 1080p as well?)

composite is just yellow. the red & white are audio and have nothing to do with the monitor.

component doesnt support 1080p, only 1080i.

you need dvi for that.

The OP mentions S-Video and composite, not component.

Yep, got an X2VGA adapter for the Xbox. Went into the dashboard and enabled 480p and 720p as well as Widescreen. Everything's still stretched, as it's displaying in 16:9 instead of 16:10, but it whips my TV set any day.

Dammit, why couldn't the 2005FPW have component in? The XBOX360 comes with a split composite and component output. Now I'd have to get another adapter if I wanted to play my XBOX360 on my monitor.

i wish the 2005fp had component in also. they probably left it out because it cant do 1080i

id use the vga cable instead of a component & the x2vga adapter for the 360.

Can't use the X2VGA for the XBOX360 as the X2VGA connects directly to the Xbox, and from there the monitor and speakers plug into that hub.

As for the XBOX360, there's already a VGA adapter out for that, unless your vga cable solution is better/cheaper? You think you can link me to that product? Thanks.

what about playing console games through a video capture card on your pc and having that run to your monitor. Would there be too much delay? How would it look? and would it be able to full screen the game?

With the composite (the yellow) on my 2005FPW can I watch my digital cable on it? I have a CRT 27" TV that I just hate and would love to be able to use one of my 2005FPWs

^^ Yes if your digital cable box has an output for the yellow cable. I watch non-digital cable TV on my 2005FPW by using a VCR to get the cable signal and it has an output for the yellow video cable on it. It looks like crap, but backing far away like you would normally watch TV and its pretty decent quality. It saves space and the 2005FPW is siginificantly bigger than my ~13" TV.

amm you need a non Widescreen res . like any normal monitor will do. Dell 2005FPW and 2045FPW is good with XBOX 360 since its support HD res. 720p easy on that monitor

Has anyone ran their XBOX 360 on their 2005FPW? How does it look? Do you need to set anything special for it to look okay???

I actually hooked up my Xbox 360 using the Microsoft VGA adapter. I enabled 720p in the dashboard and it looks amazing on the 2005FPW.
