Anyone use the Web TV part of windows 98

if you do use it how does it work
what the heck are tv tuner cards an what do they do
and what is the minimum system you can use it on etc

tv tuner cards allow you to watch tv on your monitor. I have one from ATI. However I have never used the WebTV thing.

ok I have a voodoo 3 with tv out on it
could I watch what ever the heck web tv is with this or still need a
tv tuner card

It sounds logical to me that you need a TV tuner card. How else can you have a TV IN. You only got a TV-out on your Voodoo.

I never got mine to work in Win98. I think they have discontinued the service - I may be wrong though.

You need a TV card for it to work - all it does is download data through your TV card to "enhance" your viewing pleasure by making it interactive. Since the web has become more omnipresent, the company - WaveTop that helped create WebTV has moved on to other projects.

i have a wintv tuner card, and i tried to run webtv, but it doesn't look like it works. anyone tried it?

Actually there were 2 components for Webtv for Windows:

1. Enhanced software to work with your tv tuner card that simulated a tv with a multifunction remote.

2. TV listings like an onscreen tv guide that did not require a tuner. However, I believe that function has been discontinued.
