Is this a stable board? Are there any niggling issues present?

Looking around the internet i get the impression the hardware is quality but the BIOS leaves a lot ot be desired. The board has been out for a while so issues should be ironed out by now you would think.

Newegg has quite a few negative reviews, but that is to be taken with a pinch of salt I understand.

The board will be paired with a i7 3820 with no overclocking.

Appriciate owners feedback.

I am looking at it as a upgrade from the current system, so have no hands on with it. That being said a few things about it that have put me off it currently are.

It is a e-atx board, the case I want is a ATX.

Most of Gigabytes x79 boards where recalled / users told to do a urgent bios update about chrismas last year (faulty bios and how it interacted with the power on the board had resulted in mild overclocks killing the board). Just a bios fix was all that was needed.

Thirdly, if not overclocking the UD3 is noticably cheaper and does fit into a ATX format. You mainly just loose the extra 4 ram slots. Not a big deal for most as getting 4 x 8 GB is not that pricy (ie: not miles more than getting 8 x 4GB anyway).

Thanks for your input.

Yeah i read about the burning out of motherboards with a slight overclock. I am not to concerned about that as I understand it has been resolved.

What I am concerned about is the BIOS in general, pottering around the internet it would appear lots of users think this board is utter junk. Although I can find similar comments about my P6T WS Pro and this has been the best system board I have ever owned.

The X79-UD5 would fits my needs and the layout is perfect. I just don't want the hassle of assembling a system and taking it all apart again if the board turns out to be a PITA.

I think the bios is ment to be similar to the UD3 version of the board, and Anandtech did a review of that board I think

personally, the only other boards that look promising for me is the asrock in terms of features, but I just can not spend money on a board that has a crappy small fan cooling the mother board. they do not give me confidance in the product and long term usability.

only other boards that seem suitable require me to go ivy bridge and spend $400+ for a board.

Finding just the right board / setup arrangement can be so time consumeing.

Yeah tell me about it.

You think you have it nailed then you come across something that puts it question. I think you can end up doing too much research.

Also those chipset cooling fans have headache written all over them. At some point they always end up making a droning noise.

Anyway if you take the plunge I would appreciate some feedback on what you end up with. Likewise i'll do the same if I go first.
