Anyone use the food saver?

I was thinking of picking one of these up later today at costco. I just got my membership renewed, and never bought meat there, since it's only me and my gf. I saw the food saver there the other day. It looked cool, but I always assumed freezing meats, etc, would ruin the flavor of it.

So how do you like your food saver? What about freezing meats?

We use ours alot.

When hamburger goes on sales we buy 20~30 lbs of it and it is fine.

We also buy boneless chick on sales again fine frozen.

For steaks and such I buy the day we are going to have them.

Also we use the canister to marinade adn it really works!

Absolutely love ours. We use it all the time. Meat lasts a lot longer in the freezer. We have an annual fishing trip that our family goes on; we usually have enough fish in the freezer to last 1 year; and at the end of the year, it tastes just as good as it did the week we froze it. Also, since I hunt, it's a great way to freeze venison. It's really easy to make nice square 1 pound blocks of ground venison and just stack them in the freezer. The venison never lasts that long though; we eat quite a bit of it, especially the ground venison (very healthy tacos - no grease, better flavor, for meat in hamburger helper types of casseroles, chili, etc.)

We haven't used or tried the canister thing for marinating... What we'll do instead is take the boneless skinless chicken breasts, put them in a bag, pour in some lawrey's sauce (Teriyaki/garlic&herbs/whatever), then seal them and toss them in the freezer.

How long would you say meat, chicken , etc.. lasts.

For me now, i'd never leave it in the freezer for more than a week.

doesn't it take forever to vacuum ?

I tried it out when I was in the dorms since one of my roommate had one and it was so slow.
