I was thinking about possibly getting a cingular prepaid plan. But the way they explain it, on their website, you have to pay a monthly fee for your minutes. The cheapest plan is 29.99. But the way they explain it, you pay 29.99, every month, and they just roll over your minutes. Is that how it works? How is that prepaid? Or am I just reading it wrong?

Well I just bought a Motorola V551. But I never use all of my cingular plan. So i figured I would just switch to a prepaid plan. But not only will I lose my number if I switch, I will be paying the same amount as I pay now, but for less minutes.
I just finished my one year contract, so I am going month to month right now.
I like cingular and their coverage, so I am gonna stick with them, but I guess I will just stick with the plan I have if their prepaid is the same thing.

Prepaid is not the same thing as a monthly plan. With a prepaid plan, you have no monthly bill, you just prepay the minutes you use.

Also, you cannot use the same phone number on a prepaid plan as it will require a new sim.

So you have three choices;
1) Keep everything the same as it is.
2) Drop to a lower monthly plan
3) Go prepaid, but lose your #.

How do you like v551? I will be switching to Cingular in coupe of weeks and this phone is onb my short list. Seems to have all the features of Razor but without an ourageous price tag.

Well I bought it outright from ebay. I absolutely did not wanna sign a 2 year. It will be here tuesday or wednesday. But I played with it at the cingular store. It was pretty fun.
It's definately an upgrade from my T616.
And I am pretty sure it has more features than the Razr, but I might be wrong.

Cingular's prepaid is a monthly-type plan. Except the minutes roll over. You pay a 29.99 fee, and you receive 200 minutes. But you have to get it every month, or you lose the minutes you don't use. It's not a contract, just a month to month thing. So if you pay 29.99, but only use 100 minutes, you lose the other 100. Unless you sign up for another month that is. I believe they have "Pay As You Go" but I cannot find much about that on their site.
I have the lowest plan they offer.
So I will probably just keep what I have, and tell everyone and their brother to call me on my cellphone so I can start utilizing some of my minutes.

That's true. They have great rates. But I also like nice phones with alot of features. And the best they have is the Flasher V7. I actually bought one a few days ago, and played with it for about 15 minutes before I realized I just didn't care for the phone. I took it back the next day.
